Solid advice for all your investment questions

Do you know where your money is?

Are you earning money, but you're just not sure where it's going? Are you ready to make a financial plan but have no idea where to start? Or, worse, have you been working with a financial advisor but not seeing the results you want?
Some financial planners are simply asset gatherers who outsource account management to fund managers offering not much more than cookie-cutter options and confusing fees.
You deserve a certified financial planner (CFP) dedicated to managing your money who will get to know your life, understand your goals, and help design an investment strategy personalized for your individual needs.

This is more than your money...This is your life.

Mark and his team believe you've got to get to know a person and their life when you are entrusted to seek growth and protection for their investments. They get it. This is more than just money...this is your life we're talking about.
The financial market is complicated and ever-changing. Keeping up with it is a full-time job- that's why it's ours.

You have questions. We have answers.

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about investment planning.

  • Financial advisors typically focus on investment management, while a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) takes a more holistic approach to financial management. A CFP can serve as an investment advisor and offer planning and insight into overall wealth management, such as savings, taxes, insurance, and debt management.

  • The short answer? It depends. Ideally, the best solution would be to do both simultaneously.

But many different factors go into deciding to pay down debt versus investing extra cash. Your best bet is to get someone you trust to discuss the pros and cons and help you make an informed decision and action plan.

  • The truth is it depends more on your investing goals and time horizon than on what's happening in the market.

That said, the internet would have you believe that you can successfully DIY investing in stocks and bonds, and we highly recommend against that. Instead, if you are going to invest in stocks and bonds, no matter the health of the economy, get an expert to guide you through the process.

  • Both are key to a well-rounded financial team, but some differences exist. For example, accountants are licensed to provide tax advice and help prepare your annual tax or estate tax return. Financial planners are empowered to help give investment advice and develop wealth management plans. At TriStar Financial, you get the benefit of both a Certified Financial Planner and experienced tax accountants on your team.

  • Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) combine the flexibility of stocks with the diversification of mutual funds. The exchange-traded part of the name refers to how these securities are bought and sold on the market, like stocks. The fund part refers to how an ETF provides easy access to diversification and exposure to a wide variety of asset classes, like a mutual fund.

ETFs have some benefits, like low fees and more control over capital gains taxes, but ETFs can have less liquidity and be difficult to sell. As a result, they aren't suitable for every investor, but they can work in some portfolios. Ultimately, you should have an experienced guide to help you navigate ETFs.
